Match hosting to operational skill

Shared and managed hosting reduce administration. VPS and cloud services provide more control but transfer patching, monitoring, backup and security responsibility to the customer.

Understand the traffic profile

A brochure site, ecommerce store, API and AI application have different compute, database, caching and uptime requirements. Start with the actual workload instead of buying based on vague 'unlimited' claims.

Reliability and support

Review backup policy, recovery process, service status history, support channels, resource limits and migration assistance. For revenue-producing sites, test recovery before an emergency.

Cost beyond the headline price

Include renewal price, domains, email, backups, security, CDN, database, bandwidth, managed services and staff time. Low introductory pricing can become expensive when essential add-ons are included.
